Lesson Levels & Goals

To promote safety, fun, and learning, lessons are split by discipline (skiing or snowboarding), age, ability level and goals that skiers or riders are working towards.  It may take multiple lessons at a given level to achieve the goal, or students may achieve the goal of their level before the lesson is over and move towards the next level’s goal.

In preparation for any lesson, and upon check-in at the Ski & Ride School desk, please be prepared to provide an assessment of your goals and ability level, as follows:


Skiing

Level 1 - to learn how to use ski equipment, begin sliding in a balanced stance, and to have a positive first-time experience on snow. Location: LC-1
Level 2 - to make a controlled stop in a balanced wedge. Location: LC-1
Level 3 - to make round turns and to turn to a stop. Location: LC-1 & LC-2
Level 4 - to control speed through turn shape in order to ski a wider variety of terrain. Location: LC-2, Hideout, I-70, and Creightons
Level 5 - to make parallel turns. Location: all mountain 
Level 6 - to make dynamic turns suitable for changes in the terrain. Location: all mountain 


Snowboarding

Level 1 - to learn how to use snowboard equipment, practice one-footed activities, and be able to sideslip down I-70 or LC-2
Level 1/2 - this student has had a first time lesson and understands all the basic maneuvers, but for one reason or another has not left LC-1. The goal is the same as level 1
Level 2 – to use one-edge side-slipping skills efficiently (falling leaf, traversing, etc.) 
Level 3 - to maneuver on and use the second edge all over the mountain
Level 4 - to learn turns and begin linking them all over the mountain at all times
Level 5 - to improve dynamic riding skills and/or park riding skills
